We use a distinct hands-on approach to architecture combining a playful design process, collaborative relationships with clients, and partnerships with builders and fabricators. Our projects prioritize building strategies that reduce waste, and utilize recycling and reuse. Living light feels right. Alchemy's lightHouse system is a predesigned, crafted solution that provides attainable, efficient, sustainable housing for guests, your mother-in-law, or your creative self.

Alchemy makes stimulating, engaging, and efficient design accessible and affordable for a wide audience.
Geoffrey Warner's FAIA submission illustrates the path he's led Alchemy along to get to where it is today.
Alchemy's distinct hands-on approach to architecture and design combines a playful design process, collaborative relationships with clients, and partnerships with builders and fabricators to create a harmonious blend of site, building, and community.
With sustainable practices as a mainstay of our daily work, Alchemy utilizes recycling and reuse along with building strategies that reduce waste.
Hiring an architecture firm to design a new home or commercial space is exciting, but it is also a regulated and licensed process.
Timelines can vary between 16-30 months for most residential or small commercial projects-longer if you live in an area where building schedules are hectic and building permits are complicated (coastal regions or major cities).
We do not build our projects, although we may handcraft some of the details.
We work with independent factories, general contractors, builders, craftspeople, and panelized manufacturers to deliver our designs.
With the exception of the lightHouse, each Alchemy design is crafted to fit the owner's program.
For more detailed information about how we work, download Alchemy's brochure.
Alchemy is an architectural design firm that works with independent factories and contractors around the continental United States and Canada to build our designs using various construction methods: prefab modular, prefab panels (a kit of parts), or on-site-building (stick-building).
We work alongside the Owner throughout the design and build process.
Budgets dependent on many variables.
The best source for site work numbers is a local, licensed general contractor.
Project budgets include: Structure Cost + Infrastructure Cost + Foundation/Site Work + GC Fee + Alchemy Fee.
A frequently asked question is: "How much does a weeHouse/barnHouse/custom house cost?"
We can't answer that because every site is unique, every project has slightly different specs, and every project has its own priorities.
What we can do is share, in general terms, the costs of past projects.
Gather preliminary estimates for modular work from Alchemy as well as site work from local General Contractors.
Schedule a site visit with Alchemy to better examine your location and program.
Once you are comfortable with Alchemy's process and recommendations, move into the Preliminary Design Phase with Alchemy.
Alchemy will begin your drawings, will communicate with the factory about pricing and scheduling, and touch base with your General Contractor options to clear up all unknowns.
Upon approval of the program laid out by Alchemy and your General Contractor, continue on to the Schematic Design and Construction Documentation Phases.
