Residential clients care much more about the details, the quality, and design decisions, and they want to be intimately involved with design and construction. With each passing year, we become increasingly adept at working with our residential clients, and we continually master and expand our palette of design considerations and principles and techniques.

Architects and contractors don't effectively inhabit both the residential and commercial worlds. Orthopedic surgeons should not attempt heart surgery, and certainly one could never master both. On the construction site we know what to look for: short-cuts taken, drawings and specifications ignored, poor quality that would become apparent later, etc.

We know how best to procure proper performance from the contractor. We find that in the end our clients appreciate our efforts to ensure that their project is properly constructed as much as they appreciate the design. Our clients expect and should experience a pleasant design and construction process with minimal aggravation.
Services
INITIAL INTERVIEW: For prospective clients interested in a new custom home, we offer, without charge, a one-hour initial interview at our office.
We will discuss with you your aspirations for your new home, including its spaces, functionality and appearance.
We will also discuss our qualifications, the process, and any questions or concerns.
It is helpful to provide ahead of this meeting a land survey and any other available information about the home site.
ENGAGEMENT for FULL SERVICES: After the initial interview, we would sign a standard AIA Owner-Architect agreement for full architectural services.
Our clients realize the greatest benefit of our expertise when we provide them with full architectural services.
Exceptional results are achieved when a project is properly planned and priced and managed through construction.
Building a home with limited drawings and with design details left to the contractor is often a painful process with predictable results.
A very different type of process leads to a beautiful, functional, efficient and distinctive custom home.
If your home is not properly and fully designed, one or two unplanned issues during construction will force you to spend what you could have spent to properly design your home in the first place.
Michael J. Bell, FAIA, is a native of New Orleans and a graduate of Tulane University, where he achieved a Master of Architecture degree.
After four years of architectural practice in Dallas, Michael was drawn back to the city he loves, where he earned a Juris Doctor degree, also from Tulane University.
Michael then embarked on an architectural career informed by the premise that architects' clients benefit tremendously when their architect understands the contractual and legal environment in which their design and construction projects are realized.
Habitat for Humanity makes homeownership possible for families who are unable to qualify for traditional home loans but have a stable job, good or no credit, and the willingness to contribute 350 hours of sweat equity to the building of Habitat homes.
This non-profit operates a fund to "purchase, stabilize and resell blighted properties" in the Lower St. Charles Corridor.
They've rescued several beautiful homes and cultivated vibrance in a struggling neighborhood.
Our contributions include design of the reconstruction of a 150-year old mansion that was slated for demolition.
At Bell Architecture, we believe every family should have an affordable, safe, and well-designed home.
And since we love to design homes, we are in a good place to help!
Since 2001 Bell Architecture has partnered with New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity.
For every home or addition we design for our clients, we in turn donate the architectural services necessary for Habitat, their volunteers, and the homeowners-to-be to work together to build a simple, contextual and affordable home.
