We are an architectural firm in Blue Hill, Maine engaged in the design and renovation of residential and institutional buildings. Much of our work is on the Maine coast and islands, and it is this extraordinary environment - natural, cultural and architectural - that provides our starting point and inspiration. A common theme of work in progress at Elliott Architects is our search for an architecture that expresses something essential and authentic about its owner, place, and time.

This search requires that we continually refine our skills of engaged dialogue with our clients, discovering the uniqueness of each site on which we build, understanding the nature of materials with which we work, and honoring traditions of craftsmanship. As an office, we seek clarity and reduction, and work to achieve an appropriate balance of tradition and modernity in our design.

We view sustainability as something that is integral with the design process, our relationship with the client, and the construction methods of each building.
Services
This new residence on a small coastal harbor occupies roughly the same footprint as the original building which had stood since the early 20th century.
The old structure had many uses over the years.
In addition to servicing the steamers arriving along the coast, it at various times functioned as an apartment house, a laundromat, and a summer home.
To shore up the site the stone wharf has been raised and the new house is placed on piers to comply with floodplain regulations, elevating the structure above the high tides that periodically washed into the living room of the previous building.
Most people approach Maine from the south, following route I-95 through New England and crossing the Piscataqua River at Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
For the first hour of the drive in Maine, one passes the coastal communities of York, Wells, and Kennebunkport, quiet towns that explode in the summer as southern New Englanders escape from the heat to Maine's beaches.
I-95 continues north into Portland, Maine's largest city with an eclectic fusion of historic and modern.
Here is where we alter our journey, eschewing the highway for coastal Route 1.
At this time we are all fully vaccinated and the office is open to the public for business.
Individual employees are splitting their time between being in the office and working remotely so we would recommend making an appointment if you would like to meet in person.
We continue to utilize virtual meeting software, conference calls, texts and emails to communicate with our clients, contractors and suppliers.
We are also following best practices for preventing the spread of infection, and ask all unvaccinated office visitors to please wear a mask while inside.
Elliott Architects, an award-winning residential design firm, is seeking a project architect with relevant experience in custom residential architecture.
We maintain a collaborative, design-focused practice that prioritizes the role of site and environment to create architecture that is an appropriate synthesis of client, place, and time.
With each project, you will meet with clients to discuss the initial design, prepare budgets, create the final design, and observe the entire construction process from start to finish.
