The project took on the task of addressing both the historic rural-to-urban influx of Chinese citizens and a desire to retain some elements of Shanghai's traditional housing fabric.

The home owners plan to expand their existing kitchen to make room for an island by relocating their furnace & water heater and taking some space from their dining room.
New skylights will help brighten the formerly dark space.
The dining room that they seldom use will be repurposed into a study alcove with space for their exercise bike.
The intervention will aggrandize their living space by demolishing the existing truss-framing and vaulting the ceiling.
