Merengue Restaurant is an interior renovation project of a Latin-themed restaurant in Roxbury, Massachusetts.
The project included relocation of the original restaurant to an adjacent building that had been abandoned for over ten years in an inner-city neighborhood through a collaborative community planning process. The forty-five hundred square foot restaurant consists of two dining rooms, a commercial kitchen, a catering kitchen, service and storage.
The design recreates an authentic Dominican dining experience, representing the culture in both a semi-formal and informal fun setting by using traditional materials and techniques.
