Every work of architecture begins its life with an agenda.
We believe it is critical to recognize the truth that many architects hesitate to admit, which is: very few projects reflect solely the architect's agenda in the end.
To produce anything truly custom and lasting, we need the collaborative input of the owner, builder, interior designer, landscape architect, lighting designer, trim carpenter, stone mason, and the entirety of every effort from all others touching the project who believe in the craft just as deeply as the architect.

Set atop an outcropping of fossil-riddled limestone, this ranch residence offers panoramic views toward the Red River from nearly every room.
SHM developed a forward-looking design combining the rustic charm of natural field stone and contemporary details in steel and glass.
The main living spaces and master suite are separated from two guest suites by a screened-porch breezeway and outdoor fireplace at the "bend" in the floor plan.
By turning the guest suites slightly north, the guest wing frames views toward a wildflower field that turns bright yellow each year at the first signs of spring.

Nestled on the eastern bank of the Slate River at the base of Mount Crested Butte, the Aperture Multipurpose Pavilion will serve as a landmark community hub for gatherings year-round.
The pavilion is conceived as an open-air shelter offering enough space for family picnics, a respite from the weather, or a quiet moment to reflect on the beauty of the mountain.
Exposed lacy steel structural elements combined with timber roof framing give a contemporary nod to the vernacular building history of the mountain west.
