Stais Architecture & Interiors, based in Summit County, Colorado, offers full service architectural and interior design, master planning and entitlements for a range of residential, community and commercial projects. We embrace each project as an opportunity to make a more beautiful place, to capitalize on unique qualities of site within budget, and to express our creative values in helping your vision come to life.
Successful projects balance the poetic and technical aspects of architecture. Our integrated design platform incorporates over 35 years of hands-on experience in the design and construction world. We take our cues from the world around us: listening, studying and learning from nature, history and the wonder of life. Meaningful architecture is relevant to its context, both place and time.

Matt Stais founded Matthew Stais Architects (MSA) in Breckenridge in 1995 on the belief that practical, sustainable design could enhance the spaces around us.
Having built a foundation in architecture at the University of Virginia, Matt began his career working for firms on the East Coast before making his home here in the mountains of Colorado.
With passion for architecture in the High Country, our firm has since been creating compelling, custom designs for a wide range of project types in Summit County and across the West.

Designing effective buildings for the harsh climate and sensitive environment of the Rocky Mountain West demands a response which relates to the natural world.
From a cost and sustainability standpoint, adapting existing buildings to meet your continuing needs often makes sense.
We agree with the common notion that the greenest building is the one that's already built.

Improving existing buildings has the potential to be less impactful on both the environment and your wallet.
With practicality and sustainability in our core values at SAI, we encourage additions and remodels where possible.
We also acknowledge the link between sustainability and preservation - we deeply believe in preserving the integrity and character of buildings of historic significance or that contribute to established historic districts.

While the architecture of a building offers a first impression - a larger statement about what a building is - SAI knows that well-designed interiors enhance personal experience.
Because interiors are by nature inhabited, how an interior space feels is critical to quality of everyday life, be it in your home, workplace, or travel destination.
Not only do we think the indoor-outdoor relationship is inseparable here in the mountains, but we also believe details matter.
Our team of interior designers at SAI have years of experience in high-end residential, commercial, and hospitality projects.
