Eco Systems Design
Using Nature's intelligence to design regenerative, abundant living environments, indoors and outdoors. Eco Systems Design is a consulting firm specializing in regenerative agriculture, edible landscaping, and energy productive building design. We have over 30 years experience in permaculture design, greenhouse polycultures, architecture, farming, market gardening, and teaching.

We consult locally, nationally, and internationally, designing sustainable living systems. Our new book is currently available for purchase through my publisher Chelsea Green here, through Amazon here, and at CRMPI! With chapters describing Jerome's decades of discovery raising indoor polycultures up to Mediterranean and Tropical climate zones in cold Rocky Mountain Winters, and chapters on greenhouse and climate battery design by Michael Thompson.

EcoSystems Design is a Permaculture and architecture design consulting firm based in the Central Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
Using the principles of Permaculture, or permanent sustainable agriculture and livelihoods, ESD creates edible forest gardens integrated with energy productive buildings and food productive greenhouses for year around, local food abundance.
We have over 30 years of experience designing Permaculture landscapes, solar heated and cooled four-season greenhouses, solar homes and commercial buildings, sustainable organic farming and natural weed and pest control programs.
We have been teaching and designing permaculture systems since the mid-1980s.
We offer comprehensive site analysis, guidance in keeping with client's goals, base mapping, detailed plant selection and layout, keyline and permaculture-informed site designs as well as solar building and greenhouse design.
Let's grow together!
Visit the Central Rocky Mountain Permaculture Institute, our sister non-profit center for permaculture forest gardens, greenhouse ecosystems, integrated pest & weed management and a wide array of workshops and design certification courses in permaculture practice.
We feed plants by feeding the life in the soil.
Recognizing the amount of unnecessary labor that digging requires, as well as its harmful effects on soil structure and micro-fauna populations, we instead choose to build soil naturally by providing a continuous supply of organic matter.
This organic matter, applied seasonally as mulch, provides weed suppression, moisture retention, erosion control and food for the micro-life found in the soil.
By encouraging worm populations, we help speed up the mulch's decomposition while creating rich, fertile soil.
Forest Gardens are densely stacked poly-cultures of edible and useful plant species.
Recognizing the productivity and stability of natural systems, forest gardeners work to re-create their structure and connections while selecting useful species that serve both our needs and those of the garden.
Though a newly emerging concept in the west, traditional peoples have cultivated forest gardens for thousands of years in places including Ecuador, Sumatra, Mexico, India, Malaysia and Guatemala.
With the help of our talented and experienced designers, EcoSystems Design can help you create your own Forest Garden.
Complementing Keyline's water storage system is a uniquely remarkable soil building method that enables the rapid conversion of depleted subsoils into rich, living topsoil.
Keyline soil conditioning consists of two primary components - non-inversion tillage (aka subsoiling) and appropriately timed high-density grazing.
Conventional tillage typically relies on the use of a moldboard plow which inverts soil layers, thereby destroying the complex web of soil life.
Non-inversion tillage, on the other hand, refers to the use of a tractor implement fitted with a number of rigid shanks that rip through the soil profile, acting to de-compact degraded soils and provide channels for water infiltration and absorption.
