With over 20 years of history in San Mateo, we are uniquely familiar with the planning process of local communities on the San Francisco Peninsula. We are committed to creating custom landscape designs which are sensitive to the environment, meet town planning requirements, and exceed client expectations. Michael Callan consistently provides the vision, knowledge, and effective communication necessary to achieve exceptional results.

This privately situated estate in the Tobin Clark Knoll Top neighborhood of Hillsborough, California was inspired by Spanish Mediterranean influences. The landscape design embraces breathtaking views reaching from downtown San Francisco to the San Mateo Bridge and beyond. On site recreation is made possible with an infinity pool, spa, tennis court, putting green, and multiple terraces for outdoor entertaining.

Staying true to the French Provincial architectural style of this residence, we incorporated formal gardens, traditional fountains, multiple play areas, and a custom play structure into the landscape design.
Services
Michael Callan earned his degree in Landscape Architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1991.
His studies provided him with a strong foundation and a thorough understanding of plants, topography, soils, irrigation, drainage and design theory.
His extensive travels abroad continue to influence his designs and provide him with inspiration.
Michael opened his design studio in 1994, after he became a licensed Landscape Architect.
Since then he has been designing unique residential landscapes, incorporating elements such as water features, arbors, fireplaces, outdoor kitchen areas, detailed plantings, and accent lighting.
Initial client meetings are typically held on the site of the proposed project.
At this time, we analyze the existing site conditions, including the areas of sun and shade, slopes, soil, drainage and any architectural elements that might influence the design.
On some projects we produce a site plan for our clients, but for more complex sites an official survey will need to be provided.
Next, we prepare a preliminary design using AutoCAD, which is used as a planning tool for a second meeting.
The client's feedback is integrated into the plan as the design becomes more refined.
