Marta Hansen has been practicing architecture for over 30 years, and has designed over 300 residential and commercial structures. She has won numerous awards from the American Institute of Architects and her projects are regularly published on the local, regional and national level. All the images on this website are actual completed projects, not unbuilt conceptual renderings.

Combining talents from an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts from the College of William and Mary and a four year Masters of Architecture degree from Rice University, rated as one of the top architecture schools in the nation, Marta has a thorough knowledge of architectural history, theory and design, a talent for creative problem solving and can artfully render ideas and spaces.

Listening to her clients' needs, vision and budget, she can overlay these criteria onto timeless designs integrated into the most challenging waterfront and historic building sites. Her architecture incorporates natural daylighting, interior detailing and landscape architecture to produce organic compositions in which the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
Services
One of the things that distinguishes Hansen Architects is how computer aided design is not used during the initial design phase.
Although able to draft on the computer, Hansen does not believe that using the computer is the most fluent way to visualize a building's aesthetic and functional potential during schematic design.
Instead, she uses her training as an artist to compose hand drawn perspective sketches, resulting with two major benefits.
First, being able to draw shows that the architect can think and compose in three dimensions; visualizing spatial relations while in conversation with the client, on site, or in the office, without having to rely on the slow, distant, and often homogenizing process of computer mediation.
