We believe that Architecture is not as much about buildings, as it is about space, how the design of planes, surfaces, openings, pathways, and associated systems define and influence space, and the quality and character of the activities that occur about, upon, and within the field of that influence. We believe that we have a responsibility to coexist with the patterns -- and limitations -- of nature.

Environmentally-responsible design solutions are intrinsic to every project that we undertake, with an emphasis on appropriate, straightforward, low-cost, low-maintenance energy-efficient solutions. Since 1981 Wright and Hammer Architects has established a reputation as a creative, energetic Design Firm, dedicated to Community Architecture, and known for attention to detail throughout each phase of every project.

Our Practice is specifically committed to providing high-quality Architectural services to non-profit organizations, educational, cultural, civic and public facilities, for projects that contribute positively to the quality of life in communities throughout New Mexico.
Services
The primary focus of our practice is Community Architecture, assisting our clients with projects that serve the best interests of our society.
Our portfolio is dominated by work for Non-Profit Organizations, educational institutions, small municipalities, historic facilities, rural medical clinics, senior centers, services for the homeless, and the like -- organizations whose work likewise benefits the Community.
We maintain long-term relationships with most of our clients -- some dating back more than 20 years -- covering multiple phases of work, and a myriad of services related to new construction, additions, renovations and remodeling.
To us, the term Historic Architecture has broad meaning, covering everything from genuine Historic Preservation and Restoration, to continuum and evolution regarding how places are used and change relative to historical context and tradition.
This involves everything from preserving places within a moment in time, to graceful and respectful adaptation and change.
It can be a powerful experience to stand within the authentic surroundings of our forefathers, and better understand the context of their lives.
Architectural Planning is a process through which we may assist our clients to define goals and visions, and map a logical, predictable, and sequential path to realization.
The Planning process generally commences at the point of early, strategic concepts, and may progress through long-term, multi-phased development.
There is generally some degree of formal Planning involved in each project that we undertake, large and small.
The Planning process allows for an exploration of various options, contingencies, and outcomes best suited to the needs of each of our clients.
We have made an effort as professionals to contribute to our society, not only through our architecture, but also as educators.
Our desire is to promote a greater understanding of and involvement in the design and construction process, for our clients, the users of our buildings, and the community.
Beyond the normal scope of Architectural services, we often set up on-site displays and schedule on-site working sessions, informational meetings and classes.
At school sites in particular, we frequently schedule 1-day classes and demonstrations in design, structures, building systems, and construction, inviting contractors and sub-contractors to speak about their work, and relate what the students are learning to the work of various trades and professions.
As practicing artists ourselves, we understand many of the needs and the workings of the art studio from the inside.
