Thank you to all who participated in our recent neighborhood treasure hunt Where in Wallingford. Seattle's Wallingford is a neighborhood with a rich, interesting, and diverse history. Today, it has matured into a wonderful neighborhood with valued residential and commercial presences. Through the activities of the Historic Wallingford organization, we wish to share our community's history with residents of Seattle and beyond.
The value of knowing our historic past and stories about those who shared our neighborhood in the past, will enhance the lives of people today and tomorrow. Elementary, middle, and high school students will benefit from a sense of identity through the identification of a shared past. A principal purpose of Historic Wallingford is to raise awareness of the significant cultural values of Wallingford.

Local historians often reference the Nyberg and Steinbrueck neighborhood surveys of the mid-1970s.
They're referring to a citywide inventory of the built environment by architects Folke Nyberg and Victor Steinbrueck that identified common building types, significant buildings, and urban design elements.
Historic Seattle - then a newly established public development authority - commissioned the study, which was completed in 1976 and is officially called A Visual Inventory of Buildings and Urban Design Resources for Seattle, Washington.

With support from King County's cultural funding agency, 4Culture, Historic Wallingford is leading the effort to nominate parts of Wallingford as an historic district to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).
We are working with a consultant, Northwest Vernacular, who led our Feasibility Study in 2019.
It was the task of the Feasibility Study to determine which, if any, parts of Wallingford would qualify for recognition as an historic district.
