I look forward to hearing from you! I have around 40 years of architectural education and experience, working both privately and in other architectural offices. The MN State Board of Architecture requires: A) graduate from an accredited school, B) years of work under the direct supervision of a registerered architect, and C) pass the 40 hour long Architectural Registration Examination.
I was awarded registered architect status in 1987. A larger firm might be needed for a larger commercial project, but your more intimate project deserves the individualized and focused attention you receive from me. From the first meeting to the first draft to the final inspection, I'll be at your side. You'll start to get an idea of my capabilities and performance by looking at my photos, calling my past clients, and considering my philosophy plus years of experience with a broad range of building types.

Services
Since my billing system is an hourly fee you can decide (as the project proceeds) how much or how little you need my assistance.
Most of my clients have never been through the architectural process before and don't really know what their needs are.
Don't worry, I'll help you determine that as we go.
For fee structure see the calculator.

Many of today's building are built using only recent architectural "history" therefore they may appear fad-like and generic.
I prefer a more timeless approach that uses thousands of years of architectural history.
And rather than force your tastes and program to fit into one signature style, I let the emerging design reflect your preferences and the context of the site.
And when appropriate, I use classical architectural influences to control the evolution of the design.
This is not usually a literal depiction of 2600 year old Greek or Roman columns and entablatures and pediments, but an application of many of the same important rules of design.

The size of your project.
The efficiency phenomenon know as "economy-of-scale" actually makes a larger project more economical to build (per square foot) than a smaller project.
Ballpark architectural fees can be calculated on a sliding scale, parallel with construction cost "economy-of-scale" and "level-of-detail" predictions.
These numbers represent a "typical" package of preliminary design, design development, and construction document drawings.

Many of my projects areprivate homes, which would require owner permission for you to see you the interior work.
But many can be appreciated by driving by the exterior.
The images you see above are the BEFORE and AFTER hand sketches of 4124 Queen Av So, Minneapolis.
The house is across the street from the Lake Harriet Bandshell, which influenced the tower addition's mass and details.
