Having spent the greater part of my professional career directing teams of architects and engineers-mostly on projects of substantial size, I have now re-focused my efforts on projects in which I can have more personal involvement. My practice includes both residential and commercial projects, as well as consultation on larger mixed-use projects where I can offer the benefit of my 35+ years experience.

In all cases, I stress personalized service and a focus on fulfillment of client needs and expectations, as opposed to preconceived notions of design. In addition to my California architectural registration, I am LEED accredited, and typically approach all my projects from a perspective of sustainable design. From my experience in real estate development, I am keenly attuned to constructability issues and to design that gets maximum result for the construction dollar.

I am also especially committed to the principles of integrated project delivery wherein all building team members commit from the start to work together for the common good of the project-an approach that fairly describes my work philosophy in general.
Services
My design philosophy is grounded in creativity, functionality, sustainability, harmony with nature and value.
I listen carefully to my clients to understand their goals, aspirations, and expectations.
I then create a design that is on-budget and buildable.
I am able to be flexible with my schedule so I meet with clients at their convenience.
I bring my expertise, rigor and best practices to all my projects both large and small.
This has led to my history of rapid planning approval so my clients more quickly build and enjoy their new spaces.
I believe in design that is community sensitive, vibrant, pedestrian-friendly and supportive of the owner's needs.
Renovation of the former South Shore Shopping Center into a pedestrian-friendly "life style" center.
Completed while in previous employment at Field Paoli Architects.
Features 439,000 s.f. of retail, 290 units of residential apartments and condominiums, as well as over 2500 spaces in 3 separate parking structures.
The anchor tenant (Wal-Mart) is that chain's first ever store with a corner entry, and adjacent parking structure.
Central to my design philosophy is awareness of the principles of 'universal design' - environments that maximize use for people of all ages and abilities.
This goes well beyond the minimum requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which applies only to public accommodations, and may include level building entries, main level bed & bath, 48 hallways, provisions for elevator installations, cabinet placement.
Although I have consulted and designed for ADA compliance, Universal Design is rapidly becoming a separate sub-specialty of my practice.
