NewSchool is an innovative architecture, design, and construction management school located in San Diego, California, that offers a range of degrees for students looking to advance their careers in architecture, construction management, graphic design & interactive media, interior architecture & design, and product design.

The School of Architecture and Construction Management at NewSchool prepares students for careers in architecture and construction management through a variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

NewSchool is proud to be one of the first 14 programs in the United States accepted for participation in the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) Integrated Path to Architectural Licensure (IPAL) program, which allows students to complete architecture license requirements while earning their graduate degree in architecture.Our School of Design curriculum prepares students for various design careers including graphic design & interactive media, product design, and interior architecture & design.

In Fall 2017, more than 135 international students from more than 20 countries joined the NewSchool Community, including students from: Saudi Arabia, Mexico, India, Kuwait, China, Spain, Peru, Brazil, Norway, Iran, Turkey, Iraq, United Kingdom, Venezuela, Vietnam, Mali, Republic of Korea, Canada, Morocco, Angola, Bahrain.
Students at NewSchool experience a truly global classroom environment with the opportunity to participate in unique study abroad programs, an international campus community, cross-location collaborations, flexible online learning, and world-renowned guest lecturers.
The architecture department at NewSchool is rich in diversity and creativity.
With international faculty prominent in the field, our students are exposed to many different approaches to design and innovation and master the same industry standard technology in the classroom that is used in the workplace.
From their first day at NewSchool, our students learn to tackle hands-on, community-based projects that provide them the foundation and tools necessary to grow and succeed in their career as an architect.
The Bachelor of Arts in Architecture program prepares students to enter a first-professional Master of Architecture program.
Students must complete a minimum of 183 quarter credits.
The program consists of 108 required professional credits, 15 elective professional credits, and 60 integrative studies credits.
Note: The National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) does not recognize and/or accredit Bachelor of Arts in Architecture degrees.
Upon completing an undergraduate degree in architecture, students can choose to continue their architectural studies and pursue architectural licensure by enrolling in the Integrated Path to Architectural Licensure (IPAL) program.
Demonstrate critical thinking through a self-reflective process of conceptualization and design thinking that is open to consideration of alternative perspectives by analyzing, evaluating, and synthesizing ideas and information gathered through applied research grounded in information literacy.
Implement complex two and three-dimensional graphic representation techniques using a wide variety of traditional and digital media, to reflect on and explain the architectural design process to a wide range of stakeholders.
NewSchool offers an array of graduate architecture programs tailored to specific interests and backgrounds.
All of our master's degree programs emphasize the set of core concepts that set us apart from other architecture schools: the iterative relationship of practice to scholarship, the idea that environmental awareness informs everything we do, and our presence in the urban environment as a fundamental component of our outreach activities and of our very identity.
All graduate degree tracks focus on the design studio as the integrative center of the curriculum.
