As a resident of NE Mpls, I have watched the building progress of the Eastside Maintenance Facility, first with dismaY (another industrial building!) and then in the final stages of construction, actual rubber-necking as I drove by.
Somehow the Architect turned what could have been a hulk of a vehicular warehouse into a marvel.
Considering how the project site butts up to University Ave, rumbling with heavy traffic and not exactly a "destination spot", it might have been tempting to disregard the STREETSCAPE, yet the placement of blue glass fields and the stepping of the facade kept this complex of buildings lively and graceful.
