It's been quite a ride! Currently, you can find us at the intersection of ground-breaking architecture and smart design. How'd we get here? Look, we're professionals, and we know what we're doing, but we don't drown out a client's needs or ideas. Everyone wants to be heard and we're listening. Even if you think Millennial Pink should be the anchor color of your restaurant.
We pride ourselves on innovating and collaborating with clients to bring their visions, most often wide-ranging in style, to fruition. We have one guiding philosophy. What's that, you ask? Well, unlike most firms, we take a humanistic approach to each project. The nature of our work is very experiential, so we stay open, engaged and nimble. That way, we're able build what individually suits a space or place.
Some firms are out to build their vision, but hoteliers and retailers and restaurateurs come to us so we can build something together. Our team the pushes creativity and holds onto its passion for the details while maintaining an open, engaged and dialogue with our clients.

Services
Twenty years ago, Richard Stokes redesigned The Starlux hotel in Wildwood, NJ.
This was the start of his full-service firm, specializing in both architecture and interior design: Stokes Architecture + Design.
Stokes constructed a team who specializes in everything from ground-up rebuilds to smaller interior fit-outs.
Plus, Stokes A+D has established trusted relationships between many local and nationally renowned artists, engineers, and specialty consultants who come together to share their careful research and playful insight.

Riverhouse at Odettes is a new ground-up 36 room boutique hotel on the Delaware River.
Located on the site of the former Odette's Caberet, the new hotel pays homage to the existing stone house that stood on the site for years, while creating a modern industrial style for the building that fits within the context of the hip town of New Hope.
In addition to the 36 rooms, the hotel will host a bar and restaurant (with exterior deck seating) a ballroom, and a rooftop members-only bar/lounge.
Replacing 2 more modest cottages next to our Cape May Cottage, the twin cottages played off of the style of their neighbor to create a tight composition of bayside architecture.

The dining room at the Hotel Dupont has a rich history and we wanted to respect its elegant bones.
The fumed oak paneling, and ornate plaster ceiling details are all remaining, as are the gilded chandeliers and wall sconces.
These original elements lend themselves perfectly to its new life, as a brasserie, for which we drew influence from classic Parisian brasseries and bistros.
To inject some liveliness into the space, a bar was added and wall-to-wall carpet was removed, (luckily!)
As part of the new Pod Philly Hotel, Stokes was hired to design the public spaces on the first floor and rooftop.

Client Jack Morey conceived the art box colony, on the Adventure Pier at Morey's Piers in Wildwood New Jersey, as a place to cultivate creative endeavors for regional artists.
For this project, Stokes Architecture was asked to develop a composition of 20' and 40' shipping containers that would create unique spaces, including a sushi restaurant/caf and outpost of Exit Zero (Cape May's Cultural Magazine).
The Art Box sells curated gifts and artwork and stands as a bold statement about the more "extreme" nature of the Adventure Pier, in comparison to the more family-friendly Surfside and Mariner's Piers.
