Our plans promote the use of local and sustainable materials.
We seek opportunities in the planning process for site enhancement and create plans that specify indigenous plant species to encourage biodiversity.
Beauty and sustainability are central to our design approach.
While applying sustainable, practical and cost effective strategies to site design, we equally emphasize the importance of creating elegant landscapes that are user oriented, and visually intriguing.

Thousands of plugs of wetland grasses, sedges and herbaceous plants were installed in the constructed wetland.
PICP Walks Shown in Construction Allow Stormwater to Percolate through an underlying Gravel Layer and into the Soil.
Restaino Design was instrumental in creating the site plan and landscape design for this ambitious green infrastructure project at the Bard College campus in New York's Hudson valley.
The project addresses stormwater runoff from a 10 acre campus watershed and includes 800 linear feet of permeable interlocking concrete paver (PICP) walks, a porous asphalt parking lot, two bioretention areas, a bioswale, vegetated swale and a constructed wetland with pedestrian path and stone weir wall.

Combined sewer overflows or CSO's create water quality problems for rivers in older cities. Restaino Design assisted Ulster Co. DOE in developing this rain garden and subsequently designed bioretention areas and a PICP walk at the edge of the adjoining county parking lot.
Both projects enhance urban spaces while addressing stormwater issues.
The rain garden provides color and interest visible to the street; the bioretention areas soften an existing asphalt parking area and the PICP walk adds access.
