We view the practice of architecture as a service and an art and architecture itself as that which both accommodates and inspires. The design process involves collaboration and interpretation, and each design evolves in its own way in response to site, context, program and client. With the important recognition that environment has a profound effect on life, projects are tailored through landscape, building, and interior to fully realize the potential of each situation.

Our work is characterized not only by appearance but consistent quality across a range of conditions. We listen carefully to our clients and work with passion to meet and exceed their goals. Contemporary architecture breaks with past traditions, styles and standards. Rather than any one value, contemporary architecture is about innovation. Homes designs utilize state of the art materials, featuring glass and metal used in sometimes unconventional ways for a domestic space.

Sustainability is also a concern of the contemporary architect.
Services
Christopher Arelt's practice involves collaboration and interpretation, with each design evolving in its own way in response to the site, context and client.
Arelt's work is seen as a continuation of, but also a response to Modernism; or, more specifically, a return to regionalism and artistry, where clients' projects are developed with the "heads, hearts and hands" of all those involved.
All of our buildings explore the use of natural light, reveal the inherent beauty of the materials being used, and bring the outdoors in.
Carefully framed views of Ram Island and the Mystic River are amplified by a cool minimalist interior.
Many of our projects are subject to the complexity of zoning, flood and historic regulations, we have developed an expertise in residential design that is sensitive to the coastline, its site, and surroundings.
The one-way approach to mechanical ventilation has been updated for the 21st century into a balanced, whole-house approach.
HRV and ERV ventilation systems induct fresh, filtered outdoor air into the house while exhausting stale, polluted indoor air at exactly the same rate.
Utilizing small-diameter dedicated ductwork or your existing HVAC ducts if preferred, along with a central unit that incorporates intake and exhaust fans plus a heat exchanger, these systems run continuously at a selectable speed and rate of air exchange.
Custom design is new to many clients.
You may be wondering what to expect and have questions like "Where do we start?" and "How long does it take?"
I'd like to familiarize you with the steps involved in taking a project from broad ideas and goals through refinement and specification to construction and occupation.
Once the contract for architectural services is signed, the process begins.
The goals, requirements and parameters are established so your project heads in the right direction from the start.
