Ratcliff
Ratcliff's design philosophy is based on the concept that space matters; architecture impacts us every day, it enhances and amplifies our experience as human beings. We approach our work by gaining a deep understanding of the context within which we are working; this context is multivalent and includes physical, functional and cultural considerations.

Armed with this deep project knowledge, our goal is to develop the most appropriate design response that will be enduring and will provide long-term value. Our passion is to assist clients in creating environments that support their organizational mission at critical junctures in: learning, healing, living, working and worship. We believe that organizations, and the people who drive them, want to be heard, valued, and understood while also being engaged in creative work.

The strong working relationships we create with our clients, firmly rooted in a philosophy of co-discovery and co-creation, have sustained our practice for over a century.
Services
Architecture inspires us primarily because of the opportunity it holds to interact with others in a meaningful way, and civic architecture can create a ripple effect of pride throughout the community.
Honored to work with local governments to cultivate consensus and ensure the enduring value of each civic commission, Ratcliff provides site planning, surveys, building evaluations, use permit revisions, code compliance, tenant-improvements, adaptive re-use and renovation, and new construction for a variety of building types: office buildings, city halls, operation service centers, call centers, maintenance and corporation yards, courthouses, performing arts/event center, academic buildings, and non-OSHPD and OSHPD healthcare clinics.
The design of healthcare facilities involves driving a dynamic relationship of change in operations, technology, regulations, image making and behavior to create spaces for wellness and healing.
Ratcliff offers an attitude of discovery and constant improvement in our relentless search for opportunity and creative solutions to the challenges facing the healthcare network.
We imagine a future that improves the lives we serve and is regenerative by nature.
We design to achieve the most beneficial outcome for our healthcare clients, patients, visitors, frontline healthcare providers and the larger community.
Our team of architects dedicated to higher education environments interacts with academic institutions at critical junctures in their history, helping with visioning and shaping their campuses for current and future communities of learners.
We approach our work through the lens of the student experience and its direct relationship to student success.
Today's colleges and universities are faced with some real challenges, such as student retention, faculty recruitment, and the integration of new technologies into aging facilities.
Today's educators are challenged to provide academic settings that inspire a lifelong love of learning.
Mindful of finite resources and increasing program demands in the K-12 environment, our academic architects create flexible, technology rich, learning environments that transform quickly to support multiple modes of learning and uses - and to be adaptable to new, varied program uses in the future.
Our primary objective is to understand what makes a school unique and how, architecturally, we can support that philosophy through our planning process and design efforts.
Ratcliff possesses a vibrant vision, a drive for innovation and a commitment to sustainable design.
With a legacy in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1906, the firm is a living, evolving architecture firm, dedicated to learning what is important to our clients, community and planet.
This results in the design of extraordinary outcomes.
Ratcliff's staff of 65+ engage clients share our values and serve as strategic partners in designing sustainable building solutions.
Our primary practice areas of academic, healthcare and civic architecture present significant opportunities for a sustainable architecture that is driven not only by place based questions of purpose, design and technology, but by deeper issues of our enhanced contribution to society.
